Everything you need to know about Kakeru
Kakeru (駆ける — "to run, to draw") is a quiet web tool for turning a shape, a word, or a preset into a real, runnable route. Drop a pin, pick a distance, and Kakeru threads your drawing through real streets and paths. Export it to Strava, Garmin, or any GPS device.
No. Walk it. Stroll it with a baby. Roll it in a chair. Take the long way home. Kakeru is for anyone who moves through the world on their own two feet — or two wheels, or a paddle.
Running, walking, cycling, off-road hiking, and swimming or kayaking. Each mode snaps to the right network — roads for running and cycling, trails for off-road, open water for swimming — and warns you when a route crosses a surface it can't verify.
Anything that reads a GPX file — Strava, Garmin Connect, Wahoo, Coros, Suunto, Apple Watch (via Workoutdoors or similar), Komoot, RideWithGPS. You can export the file directly, or one-click push to Strava if you connect your account.
Yes — anywhere with a road network, which is most of the planet. Runners have used Kakeru in Tokyo, Lagos, Buenos Aires, Reykjavik, Mumbai, and every continent except Antarctica (so far).
Around 98% on urban road networks. Your drawing is threaded onto real streets so the GPS trace actually looks like what you drew. Off-road mode loosens the snap for trails and paths, and swimming mode skips it entirely. Always check the preview against local conditions before you head out.
No expiry, no subscription. Kakeru is sold as one-time packs — once you buy, the routes are yours this week, next year, a decade from now. Some life moments take time to arrive.
Yes — type any word using A–Z, 0–9, ! or — (up to about 20 characters; lowercase is auto-capitalised), draw freehand on the map, or pick from the shape library. Cyrillic, Greek, and East Asian scripts are on our roadmap but not in the current release. Long words or dense shapes may need a longer route distance to stay legible — Kakeru will warn you when.
